PALIMPSEST: From Document to Artwork

As part of the EROA initiative and in conjunction with the Institute’s Artistic and Cultural Outreach Program, the 4th-grade classes th 5 and 3 th two classes at the Boris Vian School in Croix are showcasing works by artists David Leleu, Katia Kameli, and Raymond Depardon to create an exhibition in collaboration with the Institut pour la photographie.

The choice of the palimpsest as a theme invites us to reflect on and experiment with various ways of creating images other than by taking a photograph—by using preexisting photographs and combining different media whose original contexts disappear to make way for a new image. Through the interplay of superimpositions, shifting, and erasing, a palimpsest effect reveals the different layers of interpretation within an image—whether viewed from the perspective of the creator, the selector and distributor, or the viewer encountering it for the first time. A program initiated and supported by the DRAC Hauts-de-France, the DAAC – Lille Academy, the Ministry of National Education, the Lille Academy Rectorate, the Ministry of Culture, the Hauts-de-France Regional Council, the Nord Departmental Council, and the Pas-de-Calais Departmental Council.

Due to current health measures, the exhibition is open only to students from Collège Boris Vian in Croix.
