This multidisciplinary symposium examines the role of photography in documentation practices within the media context.

Examining the organization of photographic collections to ensure the effective use of images (indexing, editing/selection of subjects or photos, directory structure, commercial hierarchies, repurposing, etc.) requires highlighting the role of professionals involved in the day-to-day management of visual collections or photo libraries within the media. Iconographers, documentalists, archivists, and others—the traces left by their actions in the circulating photographic collections, as well as the testimonies of these professionals, serve as guides for reexamining these job titles, better understanding them, and defining what they entail.

To measure the impact of these professional practices on the circulation of images and the conditions of their visibility. And finally, to examine—as a significant contribution to the cultural history of image producers—their role in shaping the representations and visual culture of an era.
