Lecture with Christel Pedersen

Christel Pedersen, one of the recipients of the 2019 Research and Creation Support Grant, is working this year on a research project titled “  Greetings from Reykjavik – Disseminated Archives  ". "

This project focuses on the experimental art scene in Reykjavik in the 1960s and 1970s and its establishment of a transnational, anti-institutional network through epistolary practices; practices that could be compared to today’s communication and dissemination via online platforms.

For artists in Reykjavik, who at that time were geographically distant from European and American art centers and who, moreover, lacked the support and understanding of their local community—both the general public and established institutions —correspondence served as an important, even decisive, means of exchange with a more receptive audience and artistic community.
